I hold a Ph.D. in Hispanic Cultural Studies from Michigan State University. I am currently on the Board of Directors for Adoptees with Guatemalan Roots. My research and teaching focus on experiences of Latinx peoples in relation to transnational connections to their Latin American countries of origin. Within these orbits, I consider how literature, social media, urban spaces, and visual representations form a network of knowledges, memory, and solidarity movements. I am especially interested in how mediascapes--Instagram geotags, hashtags, and public commentary, Facebook Live, and Google Maps--generate discourses about Central American migration.
